Hexagram 12 of 64 · King Wen sequence

Standstill

否 · pǐ

Above: Heaven
Below: Earth

Heaven above earth, pulling apart: the great depart, the small remain — a season where nothing connects.

The mirror of Peace: high and low face away from each other, channels close, and effort stops being rewarded — not from failure, but from weather. Standstill is the season of disconnection, and its cruelty is that nothing you do seems to matter.

The tradition offers two disciplines. Outwardly, accept the blockage and do not force what refuses to open. Inwardly, keep building: draw the salary of integrity while the channels are closed, because standstills end suddenly, and the prepared inherit the reopening.

Questions this hexagram asks

What is genuinely blocked by weather — and what am I blaming on weather?
What quiet capability should I be building for the reopening?
Who else is stuck, and is there honest company in that?
