Hexagram 25 of 64 · King Wen sequence

Innocence

无妄 · wú wàng

Above
Heaven
Below
Thunder

Heaven above thunder: without falsehood — acting from what is real, without calculated motive.

Thunder under heaven: movement arising straight from the source, without plot or pretence. Innocence is the hexagram of the uncalculated act — doing the true thing without a plan to profit from its truth.

The warning is as valuable as the promise: without innocence as a ground, movement becomes misfortune. The text is dry about it — act from the real, and do not start planning the harvest of your honesty before it has taken root. Spontaneity without integrity is just improvisation over a hidden agenda.
