Yin Wood — 乙

乙木 · Yǐ mù

Yin Wood is grass, flowers and vines — life that succeeds by adapting to what surrounds it. A Yi day master tends to read a room quickly, move through openings rather than through walls, and win by flexibility where a harder wood would snap.

In a four pillars chart, Yi sits in the day-stem seat of the self. The instinct is relational: growth by weaving — alliances, atmospheres, small consistent contacts. What looks like softness is usually strategy with good manners.

Wood belongs to spring in the Chinese calendar, the season of sprouting. Yi's version of spring is quieter: the first green that appears earlier than anyone expected, because it watched the weather first.

The shadow side is drift — moving with whatever is near until the vine forgets which trellis it chose. The useful reflection is naming your own trellis out loud.
